Disinfection

Disinfection, according to the definition of ISO 15883, is a process to reduce viable microorganisms on a product to a previously determined level.

According to RKI, disinfection measures are distinguished by their efficacy.

  • A: Killing of vegetative bacteria including mycobacteria as well as fungi and fungal spores.
  • B: Inactivation of viruses.
  • C: Elimination of anthrax spores.

To meet the requirements of the disinfection efficacy according to ISO 15883 or RKI, several measures and steps have to be taken depending on the specific disinfection process.

Biological indicators for WD-processes are test systems containing viable microorganisms exhibiting a defined resistance to specific methods of disinfection. Indicators for WD-processes depict the direct and immediate result of the cleaning and disinfection process and not just a reference parameter.

Therefore, in the evaluation of the cleaning or germ-killing efficacy of WD-processes, biological testing is in the individual case superior to physical measurement and indispensable in chemo-thermal processes.

Biological indicators are being used in the realm of validation and routine monitoring of all general disinfection methods.

Biological indicators for steam disinfection according to DIN 58949 are test systems containing viable microorganisms exhibiting a defined resistance to specific methods of disinfection.

Biological indicators according to DIN 58949 depict the direct result of the disinfection process and not just a reference parameter.

Therefore, in the evaluation of the germ-killing efficacy of low temperature methods with saturated steam, biological testing is in the individual case superior to physical measurement and overall indispensable.

Biological indicators are being used in the realm of validation and routine monitoring of all general disinfection methods, especially due to their capacity to detect superheated steam.

SIMICON test systems include the following services:

  • Approved biological indicators according to relevant standards (i.e. DIN, RKI, ISO norms).
  • Standardized test reports.
  • Easily comprehensible instructions.
  • Supplies and auxiliaries for usage and shipment of the biological indicators.
  • Assessment and evaluation in a certified laboratory.
